Survey Says
Posted on July 24th, 2010 13 commentsHi all! I’m trying to get a better understanding of how/why people choose to live green or not. If you have a minute and don’t mind filling out random little surveys I’d really appreciate it. Thank you!!!
Please answer the following questions in a comment to the site. Thank you
1. Do you try to live a green lifestyle? Please tell me why for both yes & no answers
2. What do you think will make the biggest positive impact to the environment? (driving less miles, eating organic etc)
3. How do you try to reduce your impact on the environment?
4. Do you talk to your children about being environmentally responsible?
5. Does fear play into your environmental choices?
6. If money wasn’t an issue what is one thing that you would change about your life/house to make it more eco friendly?
7. Do you recycle?
8. What is your biggest challenge when it comes to being Eco friendly?Again Thank you!!!!

Thanks for the wonderful comment! Maybe we should come up with something and do a post for each other’s blogs sometime? It seems as though we have a lot of the same views! If you do link to it, just let me know, that way I can let all my readers to stop by and check it out!
I wanted to help you out with your survey, so here are my answers:
1.) Yes & No. I say yes, because I think its important to preserve out earth, and I really don’t understand how we have gotten so attached to non renewable resources, especially when the technology for renewable sources of energy has been around a long time! The only reason I also say no, is that due to my living situation at the moment, I really don’t have a whole lot of say. So while I would like to live greener, I really can’t do a whole lot about it.
2.) It depends on what aspect you want to impact. I personally, am a big fan of having lots of plants and trees to suck all of the CO2 out of the atmosphere. But, the trade off to that, can be that I’m using water. But you could always use plants that use little water. Driving less also helps. We really need to try to bring down our CO2 levels, because I believe that’s also the source of all this nasty weather we’ve been experiencing the past couple years.
3.) Like I said, I’m in a position where I don’t get much say… but there are a few small things that I try to do. First, if you couldn’t already tell, I try to go as natural as I can with my skin and hair care regimines, and really all of that. Also, if I stop by the store and am just picking up a couple things that fit in my purse, I tell the cashier not to bag the items. I try to shop from my local Farmer’s Market, as well. Those are just a couple things that come to mind.
4.) N/A — No children…
5.) Slightly, only because I know of the chaos that will come when we run out of oil! Or we might send ourselves into an ice age. Who knows!
6.) I would do some research to find which was more doable for my home and then either install solar panels or a wind turbine or both!
The ultimate goal is to produce enough power to sell energy to the electric companies and make money from them as opposed to paying them.
7.) Once again, that living situation thing. I did when I lived on my own. And I try to recycle bottles and jars and what not… but on a larger level, no. I’ve basically been told that I’m not allowed… everything is trashed.
8.) Money. Unfortunately, at this point in time, the more eco-friendly options also have a larger payout upfront, which is money that I unfortunately don’t have. So even though I would save money in the long run, I can’t always make the investment for the better options. -

We try to live a green lifestyle for our children. We want them to be as healthy as possible and to raise them to be responsible for and to care for our Earth.
We would eat more organic foods and would have installed geothermal units or wind turbines to power our home if money were no issue.
We recycle plastics #1 and #2 as that is what accepted at the local center.

Thank you! REALLY interesting!

Green is so important and I’m so glad you are doing this!
With so many perspectives and misconceptions, it’s a tough world out there, but we do the best we can!

We try to do what we can, we recycle, we make sure to turn off lights we don’t need, we are really careful with water wasting, we reuse plastic bags and paper (good for the boys to draw on). We would like to do more, install solar panels, etc., but it is just too expensive and we can’t afford it. We will eventually talk about being green taking care of the Earth but my boys are too young to understand.
Thanks for stopping by From PDX with Love! Following back.

Hi, I’m following you now from bloggy moms. Great blog.
1) I am still exploring what going green means…(I wrote a bit about it this week)…I think it’s a very important topic…we’re trying to move towards this way.
2) Reducing our spending, recycling and stop collecting junk. If we are all broke from buying buying buying…we will have no funds to invest in the environment.
3) hmmm….
4)Yes! We talk to our children about waste, littering, and started a garden this summer to explain to our 4 year old how you can grow your own food.
5) not sure…
6) Eat completely organic…I saw Food Inc and it changed the way I think about everything!
7) just figuring it out…what’s most important and what’s feasible for our family.I like our blog!!!

Hiya! Just stopping by via Green Follow Friday. So excited to find your blog
Here’s my answers to your questions:
1. I do try to live green. Partly because its much less expensive than living a high-consumption, heavy carbon-footprint kind of life – but mostly because it is the right thing to do. I am awestruck by the complex, beautiful system that is our planet, and it sickens me how little care human beings have taken of it. I want my kids, and their kids to be able to see the wonders that many of us take for granted (or entirely disregard) rather than just reading about them!2. I think the biggest thing that we can do to change the world is to consume less and with more thought. We don’t need so much stuff to lead happy, fulfilled, meaningful lives. And we need to think about how things are made, where they are made, who their production, usage and ultimate destruction will affect (among other things)
3. I reduce my impact on the planet by reducing my consumption. I reuse where I can, buy secondhand, grow some of my own food and do my best not to get too hung up on stuff!
4. I talk to my kids (2 & 4) a lot about being environmentally responsible. I try to do it in a way that is empowering – by talking about what we can DO to make a difference. Like picking up rubbish when we are out walking, turning off lights when we don’t need them on …
5. I try not to be motivated by fear. I think my main motivation would be anger. Although when I read articles about the destruction and devastation we are wrecking on our planet, sometimes I do get a horrible sense of foreboding.
6. If money wasn’t an issue I would build the ultimate off grid, eco friendly home… I have the plans in my head already LOL
7. Where I live there is no recycling programme. So I don’t officially recycle. But, I do reuse as much as possible, I recycle newspapers and junk mail by turning them into firebricks for the winter. I am a member of the local Freecycle group. And I am currently working on not generating a lot of rubbish in the first place.
8. My biggest challenge is remembering my reusable shopping bags.
