I recently stumbled across an amazing artist, I was lucky enough to find her through one of the blogs I visit www.Scoutiegirl.com.  I fell in love with all her designs immediately.  I emailed her to find out if she would be interested in working with me on some new art work I’d been thinking about.  Giddy with excitement doesn’t describe how I felt when I got a response back that she would be interested in working together.

Not only is Stephanie a spectacular artist, she is an amazing person.  She is working with a local venue to put on a show with a portion of the proceeds going to the children’s charity The Terry Lynne Lokoff Child Care Foundation, http://www.tllccf.org.  Stephanie’s art will be on display all November long with a special piece of art being created on site on November 6th at 6pm.  Stephanie is located in Philadelphia and the show will take place at Milk Boy Coffee, http://milkboycoffee.com/home/.  Also if your not in the area but would like to purchase some art and have part of the proceeds go to charity you can check out Stephanie’s Etsy shop www.stephaniecorfee.etsy.com.

Here are a few pieces from Stephanies Etsy shop.

If you love the prints as much as I do and would like to own one on a shirt, you will start to see them in our store beginning early November or late October.

If you would like to find out more about Stephanie and her art please check out her blog at www.stephaniecorfee.blogspot.com

I will post about Stephanie’s charity event as it gets closer but please spread the word about this amazing talented artist and her generous heart!

Green as Wee Grow is revamping the site and getting some new products.  Our first step was getting some new pictures.  I am fortunate enough to have found an amazing photographer right here in my own little town.  She has a great eye for detail and sees the whole picture while capturing the smallest details.  I will be posting more about our new photographer and our new upcoming projects, but for now I will just post some of the great pictures we have!

One of my best friends, Kelly, has just opened a new Etsy shop.  She is making hand crafted one of a kind Photo albums, note books, journals, personal planners and a slew of other items.  The really amazing thing is that Kelly is taking old thrift store albums, books and whatever else she can find and giving them a new life.  She is taking their bones and remaking them into new and useful products.  The fabric that she is using is from thrift stores as well.  Almost everything in her products are recycled in some way, she does use new paper for writing since it would be really hard to write over other peoples work.

Check her site out you just might find something you never new you had to have!

Here are a few items that she currently has for sale.

This store would be a great place to look for an inexpensive beautiful gift for the writer, scrapper or doodler in your life. Check out the site often for new items that she’s working on.

    Happy shopping

  • Tinky Stinky

Posted on October 7th, 2009 Samantha 3 comments

Hello my name is Samantha am I’m a little nuts.  OK with that out of the way I’d like to introduce you to the newest furry member or our family, Tinky Bell the bunny.  Tinky Bell AKA Tinky, Tinky Stinky, Tinky BunnBunn joins the already crowded house that is home to 6 chickens, 4 dogs, 3 cats, 2 adults, 1 preschooler & a baby on the way.  If your wondering no the chickens don’t actually live in our house, we are nuts but not that nuts.

Tinky is a house bunny that we rescued from the Richmond house rabbit society, great organization if your looking for a house bunny check them out.  http://www.rabbit.org/rabbit-center/index.html They have organizations all over, or at least resources to help you find one.

What could possibly make us want to get a house bunny, well here’s the shortened version of how the newest family came to live with us.

B went with me to our local animal shelter to pay for the dog licenses and saw some of the bunnies and told me that a bunny would be a great surprise for her.  My reaction was, ya right!  What I actually said was “that’s a huge surprise”

She responded with “like when I only use the big girl potty”  Side Note: We’ve been working on getting B potty trained for what feels like a year, in reality it’s been 3-4 months and she’s not buying the whole potty thing.

Me, shocked and trying not to jump up and down at the prospect of no more diapers, “yes like when you use the big girl potty, but we need to talk to daddy first”

We finished up at the shelter and got in the car called daddy and he agreed it could be good motivation for using the potty.  Well a week later she was in big girl undies sleeping through the night w/out accidents.  We spent a month looking for the perfect bunny and getting our house ready for bunnies arrival.  We found Dixie Bell and we all fell in love, Berlin thought we were saying Tinky Bell hence the name change, Tinky came home with us on Sept 1st, 2009.

What does this have to do with anything.  Rabbits are great “green” pets.  They are easy to take care of, their poop is great to use in compost piles or in chicken coops.  They can be litter boxed trained and their litter can be made from recycled paper pellets to organic wheatgrass pellets.  We have tried both and find them both to work well.  Rabbits are also social animals, but not as needy as dogs, Tinky will come up and hang out with us while we are reading or watching TV.  She likes to have her ears rubbed, but then finds herself feeling frisky and jumping around.  Yes rabbits chew but we find the wrath of Tinky’s chewing is directed toward B’s books that she leaves on the floor, good reminder to have B keep her books out of Tinky’s way.

Also if you’ve never seen the amazing bunny spazz dance you are really missing out!  Tinky’s first few minutes out of her cage every morning are spent dancing her spazzy dance around the living room!

Here is B and Tinky on Tinky’s first day at home.

  • plastic toydom update

Posted on October 5th, 2009 Samantha No comments

I’m proud to say that I have made a real effort to avoid the new plastic toy trap, and buy things made from wood or better yet bamboo.  I haven’t really gotten rid of anything, but that is coming up soon.  I am planning on going through B’s room and donating all of her old toys to the local good will or salvation army.  I’ll be keeping the toys that she really liked as we are currently getting ready for infant round 2 and will be using B’s old toys for this newest member of the family.

I will say I made a random purchase recently.  I think I made specifically because it wasn’t plastic.  I have no idea what I was thinking since B is 2, and my purchase looks exactly like Jenga.http://www.mastersgames.com/images/table/jenga.jpg

Only this particular toy is made of bamboo and doesn’t have “Jenga” written on the side of it, otherwise it’s the same.

So I bring this new toy home and my husband looks at me and says “really what is she going to do with that?”

My response “I don’t know, but look it’s made of bamboo”  because that makes it all better.

So this new toy sits on the shelf in the box for a few weeks while we try to figure out what B could do with it.  We finally figured out that if you give a kid a toy they will

    A. figure out what it does

    B. leave it alone because it’s a toy only an adult would like

    C. Play with it the way they see fit for it to be played with.

Well sure enough B didn’t see a Jenga game, she has no idea what that is, she saw building blocks.  Now her new bamboo building blocks are used on a daily basis to build all sorts of tunnels and houses for her plastic toys that I bought before I new any better.
